HURLEY BALLOT ---AT LAST! 6/20/2017Sorry this is a week late, but we had a lot of family things crop up, including our granddaughter being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society with about 100 other kids at her large junior high, including five kids from her street! She also got one of two art awards in her grade. We also found ourselves exhausted but gratified on Saturday from a wonderful Solstice Festival in Northern RI-- plus a singing party with friends from long ago at someone’s house. We were able to enjoy both treats because we took long naps in between! Additionally, inspired by the Festival, I invested in a handmade violin crafted by our friend Deck (Dexter Fiddles). I’m not a very good violinist, but I thought there should be a good fiddle in the family. Several relatives play, but the fiddles are scarce. Someday, at my memorial service, there will be a fiddling contest, and the best fiddler gets my violin!Anyway, here is HURLEY on this ballot! Vote one and two, and may the best guesser win!HURLEY--1) A rope sling for hoisting livestock, esp. calves or foals. 2) The slip knot used to release livestock from a rope sling. HURLEY--An Irish step dance, traditionally reserved for major celebrations. HURLEY--Women’s field hockey. (Regional term, little used outside Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula). HURLEY—A curly grille used as a target for throwing squirrels.HURLEY—A brunette succubus.HURLEY—A wooden stick used to hit a leather ball in the Irish game of hurling. HURLEY—A special innersole for women with extra narrow feet.
