OK, several people knew enough about guerdon to guess it if they saw it. But
none of you actually knew what it was.
"Four years of earnest, happy work...and then the guerdon of a useful
knowledge gained and a sweet heart won."
-Anne of Avonlea, by L.M. Montgomery
A guerdon is a reward or a requital, not actual currency (according to my
dictionary).
So the NEW new word is:
fossick
