Valence, not valance!

I'm in a group playing a game in which one person throws out a word or short 
phrase and the next person questions the answer. I threw out "valence", and 
one of the others exasperated me by insisting, after I pointed out that they 
are two different words, that it's around a window. So the next time I threw 
out the word, it's "pelmet".
