1) I live in RI, where not only mooring rights, but access by walkers and swimmers to the shoreline, are important topics, often legal ones. Rich people have big mansions along the shore, where previously only the poor lived, before federal flood insurance. Since common folk are supposed to have access to the shore between mean high and low tide marks, and since folks are supposed to have access to the shore for the purpose of collecting seaweed for their compost piles, some folks have carried this far enough to try to get out of paying for access at the town and state beaches, and some have gone so far as to bring a seaweed-collecting basket with them, along with their swimsuit and towel. They are usually granted walking access but are not allowed to park for free. Also, as far as mooring rights go, most people who arrive at the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals must pay large fees to see the show, but my son Greg and his friends, one summer day when all of their cash was being saved for college expenses, boated over to Newport with a shell-fisherman friend, ate lunch aboard, swam to shore from the anchored boat, got in free to the concerts, swam back to the boat, and boated home. Usually fees are charged for boat moorings at Marinas, and include things like emptying of sewage tanks, hookups to water and electric, etc.
Another big deal was whether the private club owned by the town of Narragansett should be for the use of certain selected [rich] citizens or be open to all. The less-equal pigs won, and now the Canochet Club and its beach are public, but private parties can rent it for wedding receptions, graduation parties, etc.
8) EEK! I never had a period between the birth of my twins and the conception and birth of my next son, so we were all surprised at When he was born, his size, etc--that was before sonograms, etc. Note: the only birth control that worked for us was The Pill! or we would have had one or two kids a year for a long time--a few generations back my family had totals of 16 and 22! Eeek!
9) celandine is usually a yellow dye, and various mordants can be used in varioyus dyeings--I think ammonia, urine, and alum, as well as ashes or lye. It's a plainish green weedy plant that used to grow in my backyard and have bright yellow roots on the inside.
