A part of the Earth's crust that has survived the splitting and merging of 
continents. Pilbara Craton is one of the two oldest cratons on earth (the 
other one is in South Africa). Metal detecting in Australia (I don't know in 
which craton) is difficult because of the strong magnetic ground signal.
