HI, just looked up "quinsy" and found it to be a disease of the tonsils, with pus  (ewww!)  The quinsyberry or black currant was the preferred treatment, often used as a gargle.  As for me, I had my tonsils out when I was 8.  Linda  PS  Black currant syrup is available in pubs in Ireland to add to Guiness stout  (to curb any bitterness).  I found it delicious but I like Guiness plain as well; I guess I am not one of those people who sense extra bitteness in foods (in biology class, you are a "taster" if you do)(anyone know the substance?).  Currants have long been known to purify the blood, so perhaps they are a useful food item.
