Eric had a pretty good idea of what a smew is (a small Old World
merganser (Mergus albellus), the male of which has white and black
plumage and a white crest) so I'm retiring that word and hauling out
the runner-up to assume its duties:

dreich

Again, tell me by tomorrow midnight if you know the word already.  I'm
going to ask you to include a pronunciation guide with your defs for
this one.
