HI, all, the results are in. I am having trouble with my keyboard, FIOS will be installed on Friday, and I have a horrid headcold, so I will give out the winner's name: Pierre, with 5 points plus two for correct (and only correct) guess. Unless you want to quibble about his being slightly late, but I got in under the wire a few times, so I should be charitable. Hutch was 2nd with 6 points. Once I get back online properly with instant connection, I will send total results and comments, which are my favorite parts. But for now, Pierre (or his second, Hutch) can start the word-selection process. The winning def was A'-ver, in Webster's unabridged 2nd Edition, with a long a, rhyming with waver or caver. It means a horse or ox used as a beast of burden (obs.) in England. The connection between habere, to have (L) and the animals? I'm thinking...chattel, bride price, ownership. I'm thinking I've spent too much time reading Bridget Jones' Diaries 1 and 2. By the way, I will be getting a new email address soon, so how do I get my email address changed on the fictionary list? Who can help me???? Linda
