HI, I just wanted to tell Ranjit that "smew" is often a crossword word, as are "ern" and "erne".

Great round, everybody.  Nice distribution of points: most defs got two, a few got more,the winner only got six.

The winner is Fran for her sealable temporary opening.  Fran: I know you ran the last round and I hope the new-school-year busyness has eased up some; I'm sure we'll all understand if you prefer to hand off to the second place winner (Linda, with five points for the shore bird; my sense is that a lot of people thought hers was the real def even if they didn't vote for it).

General comments:
Pierre: None of these is the least bit plewsible!
Ranjit: I'm surprised not to see any rain or weeping defs, not that I thought
of that when I was making up my own.

Nick: Although now I'm thinking I had heard this word, maybe in
National Geographic or something, and I just didn't realize it until I
saw this definition. It feels more correct than usual.

Ranjit: I hope that it's not a bird, because every funny word is a bird.  Or maybe I'm just bitter that people recognized the smew when I proposed
it as a word.
