New Word for Fictionary 9/27/10
After reviewing your replies to my list of possibilities, I have finally chosen a New Word. But first, I must mention my shock that almost all of you knew the word skirl, the sound of bagpipes. Since I heard from you all, skirl has crossed paths with me constantly: in an old movie (the kind that has written captions) and on a Celtic album, to name a few instances. Coincidently, in The New Yorker’s Rejection Collection, Volume 2, of rejected cartoon submissions, there were interviews with about 25 rejected cartoonists about various things, one of which was a list of choices, like “hip-high waders” or “a life-time supply of ketchup”. I have noticed that most people either love or hate bagpipes, because one of the choices was “Accordions” or “Bagpipes”, and one guy crossed out both and drew a circle around the word “Death” in bold letters. Personally, I like bagpipes fine. Accordions, too.
And now on to the new word! It is~ ta da~skirret, one of the few no one seemed to know. Please define the word, give part(s) of speech, and use it in a sentence to show its meaning. By next Monday, October 4th, if you please. Thanks, Linda
