Linda's turnstile parts tie with the real definition, edging out Fran's
knot and Pierre's fish for the victory. It's all yours, Linda!

parbuckle - n. - The clasp on a golf cart seatbelt.
by Ranjit. No points.

parbuckle - v. - To loosen your belt before breakfast.
by David. Ranjit 1 = 1 point.
Ranjit: 1 point for a fun buckle def
Hutch: Naah, you loosen your belt AFTER a meal. *LOL*

parbuckle - n. - A buckle designed to hold loosely but securely.
by Hutch. Correct guess 1 = 1 point.

parbuckle - n. - A decorative knot used on clothing to mimic a fastening.
by Fran. David 2, Linda 1, Pierre 1, Hutch 1 = 5 points.
Hutch: This seems vaguely familiar.

parbuckle - n. - A rope sling for rolling cylindrical objects up or down
an inclined plane.
from the American Heritage Dictionary. Judith 2, Linda 2, Nick 1, Hutch 1
Fran: You would think I would have run across this, if it were real,
since inclined planes are standard physics problem fodder. So while I
like it, I can't vote for it.
Nick: Feeling mechanical.
Eric: I was worried this might happen -- I didn't *know* parbuckle, but
I was afraid I might recognize it. I would go for the rope sling, but
that's not a real vote, since I think I'm remembering it, not guessing.
Hutch: If there's not a name for it, this should be it.

parbuckle - n. - A board game for four players, each with six pieces,
played on a 9x9 grid.
by Eric. Pierre 2 = 2 points plus a couple of guest points for recognition.

parbuckle - n. - The portion of a turnstile that contains the moving
parts, yet has a well to grease said parts.
by Linda. Fran 2, Nick 2, correct guess 2 = 6 points.
Fran: I don't like the "yet" but I like the idea of being a part on a
turnstile.
Ranjit: I'd give this the non-buckle points but I suspect it was
inspired by "turnbuckle".
Linda: The others have too much punnery. Except the fish. Oh, did
someone include a game to annoy you? Or is that Hutch?

parbuckle - n. - Either of two cyprinid fishes, Eligux atlanticus, the
greater parbuckle, and E. minor, the lesser parbuckle, both of the North
Atlantic.
by Pierre. David 1, Judith 1, Fran 1, Ranjit 2 = 5 points.
Fran: I like the complete absence of anything fastening-related in this
definition.
Ranjit: So this one gets the 2 points for not being a buckle, even
though they neglected the better known conkling, or fatty parbuckle

Pierre also sent in the following joke definition:
parbuckle, n. A belt fastener worn while playing golf.

I stumbled across "parbuckle" at a friend's house when we were looking
up some other word that was close to it alphabetically, and I took
notice because it had an illustration in the margin, which seems to be
common, because parbuckles are easy to illustrate.
