Forwarding Eric's clarification -- I came across the word when my
brother pointed out that some of the refrigerators that he's looking at
buying feature "Sabbath mode", allowing them to be used by observant
Jews without breaking Sabbath rules (among other things, the light
doesn't come on when you open the door on Saturday). A blech does
sometimes cover the knobs as well as the burners or coils, and you use
it to keep already-cooked food warm. You can take a pot off the blech,
and you can put it back provided you haven't set it down or added
anything to it. In retrospect, I should have offered the word
"unblech", which might also have been known, but which is more
interesting (it's a pan of hot water used to keep food warm on the Sabbath).

Anyway, GLIMA is still in play here.
