Re: bargain clothes, a neighbor once got a beautiful coat very cheaply because the pockets went the wrong way so they were useless for keeping hands warm.

Many, many years ago, in my foolish, foolish youth, I bought two 
pairs of wide-wale corduroy pants at an incredible price.

Only after I had worn them several times did I notice that the panels 
of corduroy did not all go in the same direction -- depending on the 
light, three quarters of my pants were light and one quarter dark, or 
three quarters dark and one quarter light.

It is *always* worth knowing about corduroy.
