Fran, Nice to have you replying! What a great idea! Of course, the varnish would darken the colors--that's what they used to preserve old oil paintings, but over the centuries the varnish darkened the colors even more, so in restoration they have to remove the old varnish, fix anything, and add more new varnish--at least I think so. Linda PS My youngest son Greg used to restore art and make frames for valuable oils, so I should ask him. Lately, he teaches Special Ed and loves it. More later, when I find out.

When I was a kid and was disappointed at the faded colors on the dried pebbles, my dad helped me varnish the rocks to bring back the illusion of wetness.-Fran
