First, general comments:
Ranjit Bhatnagar: Out of cagastrism, I eliminated all the ones about digestion or metabolism, leaving two.
J-J Cote: Since all of these look suspicious, I'll vote for the ones that look the least likely. Two points for the releasing of latches, and one for the Polish trainer.
Linda F Owens: Did I even get a chance to make up a def? Can't remember back that far. One point for the auroxes and two for the ear wax--hope they aren't mine. Oh, I get rid of ear wax with ear coning--but I have to get my husband to cone my ears and he always seems to be too busy lately. He likes having his coned however. Very relaxing. Alternate method is H2O2--a little dripped in and later swabbed out gently. Linda
And a special treat:
   When the last aurochs died
   Under an evil star
   The trainer of them sighed
   And so he traveled far.
   His cerumen flows now
   For never more he'd drink
   The milk of ancient cow
He could not bear to think.
The doc dripped in his ear
The drug till it was full
   That again he could hear
   The lowing of the bull.
   - Pierre Abbat -
And now the detailed results:
cagastric - adj. - a remark that makes one cringe. His cagastric remark about my hair made me want to run into the shower and wash out all that lime green glitter gel.
Linda F Owens : 0
cagastric - adj. - releasing two latches at the same time to fling down a rope. Axaractes pulled the cagastric trigger, and Phidippides and the other runners started racing.
Pierre Abbat : 4
   Ranjit Bhatnagar : 1
   Fran Poodry : 1
J-J Cote : 2   [Ed. Note: I must say that I never did figure this one out.]
cagastric - adj. - relating to or caused by the body's digestive processes but not of them. The patient was suffering a cagastric soreness after three days of diarrhea, and was prescribed a healing cream to apply after subsequent episodes.
Fran Poodry : 0
cagastric - n. - [fr. Polish] a trainer of war aurochses. The cagastric walked forlornly along the streets of Vilna, sighing for the steppes of his youth.
David Randall : 8 (votes) + 2 (correct guess) = 10
   Ranjit Bhatnagar : 2
   Fran Poodry : 2
   J-J Cote : 1
Pierre Abbat : 2 [Aurochsen (the second part is cognate to "ox", and the German plural ends in "en"). Two points] [Ed. Note: I would have thought "auroxen" myself, similar to the plural for computer cases (and computers in general) "boxen" (from "Vaxen", the plural for Vax miniframes) :-D ]
   Linda F Owens : 1
cagastric - adj. - of diseases, originating under an ill star. We no longer believe in cagastric causes for illness and deformity.
Real definition - 4
David Randall : 2 [But scrofula comes from Aldebaran in the summer sky]
   Melissa Shaner : 2
cagastric - n. - a medication that inhibits the production of earwax. This study investigated the antifungal properties of ripesterone, which is normally prescribed as a diaphoretic and a cagastric.
Jean-Joseph Cote : 5
David Randall : 1 ["The Joshua Randall Award for Earwaxical Vocabulary" -- my son Joshua has been fascinated with earwax over the years.]
Pierre Abbat : 1 [This is obviously the real one, from Greek κακο αστÏο.] [Ed. Note: I hope Pierre's Greek comes through: "kako astro" or have I misread it?]
   Linda F Owens : 2
Melissa Shaner : 1 [The cerumen makes me suspicious but 1]
