Should be Daisy's Pickles, not fashions. And the Beaver should be making dams, but I ran out of words. Linda. .

THE MORE THINGS CHANGE….. June 13, 2018In one of my famous piles, I found an old notebook/diary with the top page dated 5 Jan, 1995. It starts off: “Quid nunc?” What’s next? That was a few months before my brother Bill moved in with us, and just before I bought my ticket to Australia and joined the Cranston Choral Co to sing at the Sydney Opera House. First the ticket, then the joining, then the passport renewal, then the trip, then the brother. But my lament at the time of writing was my need to organize my life, organize my stuff, finish projects I’d started, do more volunteer work, and spend more time with friends and family in the days before email. Well, several of the things I had hoped for did materialize. Glad I had lots of energy back then. I have been called the Erma Bombeck of Exeter for my life that sorta bumbles along happily, or as I like to say, “Funny things happen to me”. I make plans, and some come true, and other times I am distracted or completely foiled. The latest that went swimmingly for the most part was my HS Band trip to DC. Only problem: not enough time to talk with everyone. It was like a contradance in which you dance as two couples and then you switch to the next couple on either side. Out at the ends and back in again until the music stops. But like a Boy Scout or OC trip, in which most of the time is spent planning or cleaning up afterwards, it’s always worth it. The same goes for our two recent respites to our cottage at Squam, where it was a bit lonely without other family, but we ate well and I managed not to freeze to death. This past weekend was a bit warmer, and David went swimming in the Lake; he also explored a few roads he’d read about in a B&M RR book. I read some and worked on many puzzles, which is what I do at home, except no TV at the cottage. Seems silly, but I get to talk with David or catch up on the world of news and music via radio. David puttered while I put in a few impatiens and mint plants in the shaded window boxes. Hope they get a little rain. I can’t recall if I mentioned the NH Scout trip in which David, Snowdy, and several Scouts and adults stayed at the Peter P family home in N. Conway. Some climbed all the way to Zealand Hut, some went far beyond, and some came back after partway. Views, birds, and wildflowers were noticed. Scouts camped outside on the second night, and everybody had a wonderful cookout on Saturday night. Did I mention the wet and rainy Exeter Memorial Day parade? The day before, many Scouts decorated graves in the State Veterans’ cemetery with small US flags. On the day of the parade, we stood in the rain with other folks as the bands, floats, dignitaries, politicians, and firetrucks glided by, some throwing candy, with a walking clown handing out balloons. We applauded bands, horses, and saluted flags. We even met two nice neighbors formerly unknown! I must mention kudos to Kestrel, who made the Dean’s List once again at UVM—engineering. NPR had a puzzle I was alerted to by Adrian.
