HI, all, been away from my computer for a while--return of the bad back, but it's getting better.
Anyway, when I was a kid, I got a cartooning book out of the library that said crottles were the crosses on the eyes of unconscious figures. As an adult, I can't find this book or a cartooning or other reference to crottles as anything but some sort of fungus or lichen. LInda
