I'm not knowledgeable in any of these areas.  However, people who ought to 
know, like Johanna Nichols, Berndard Comrie, and Eric Hamp, are taking it 
seriously.  You can find the papers from the conference where the evidence 
was presented at [1].  Others on this list may know more than I.
