Pierre, Is it possible that gadana is related to katana, another Japanese tool? My three sons used to make them in their teens (but never took them out of the house for fear of being accused of mayhem). Can't recall if a katana cut anything. The boys also had extensive knife and sword collections but again, never let anyone outside the house know about them. They were very much into SCA and the Middle Ages, a world of imagination, I guess. They have grown up to be very accomplished gentlemen, with interesting careers. Linda
